DIY Update-The Best Places To Make Your Own Website
August 29, 2008
I know that not every business is ready to hire a professional to do their website. I have done some research and come up with the 2 best sites to DIY. Both offer totally web based solutions-no downloads needed.
1. The winner is Band Zoogle. This site is fabulous for musicians but also good for anyone who wants a solid, functional, robust and cool looking website. It’s only $15/month and is by far the BEST that I’ve seen for both user friendliness and end product.
2. My second favorite which is not as user friendly as #1 is Weebly. Not as user friendly and produces good websites-not as funky as above if you need a more sedate looking site. Their premium service is $5/month.
Both separate content from look so that you can change the look without re-doing all your content. They also have blogs, forums and password protected areas.
Please, Please, Please DO NOT USE the web based DIY programs you can get from Godaddy, Network Solution or Homestead. Homestead is not truly web based-you have to download software to do most of the functionality. Godaddy and Network Solutions sites just look awful!
If you want to buy software and create your own site, I suggest for the PC: Coffee Cup or for Mac: RapidWeaver. Both will run you about $50-$100, have very active user communities world wide and will create a good, solid site.

I have used Coffee Cup and I highly recommend them. I am glad I found Weebly. I will keep you bookmarked!
