Shoe String Budget and Starting Out

September 1, 2009

For businesses starting out with a shoe string budget a DIY web site can be a good place to start both for budget reasons and also because you see over time what you need and it will help you make a more informed decision when you are ready to hire.

The big mistake that a lot of businesses make is they focus so much on their own site and neglect the rest of the internet. You want to be writing articles and publishing them on other sites, commenting on blogs, building your linked in profile and in general doing as much as you can both on and offline to attract visitors to your site.

The two sites that I like for DIY websites are:

Weebly-user friendly and pretty easy to use.

Bandzoogle – designed for musicians-this site is good because it is super user friendly and if you are not a musician you just don’t need to use those features.

Both offer free trials so you can see which one is best.

Homestead can be good too although you have to download software. I prefer the totally web based solutions. They do have an 800 number that you can call with questions.

When creating your site-don’t forget to make it easy for visitors once they get there to know what to do-call, join your email list or purchase-they should be able to understand the essentials from a distance without too much figuring out.
