Wordpress Info
May 5, 2009
Wordpress is a platform that was originally developed for bloggers but now is a robust platform for business websites. It comes free with CMS functionality. This page is to provide free information on Wordpress for those who are trying to learn about it or even do their own sites. Please contact me with questions, suggestions or comments.
Tutorials
iThemes Tutorials – These tutorials are free and most are under 3 minutes each. They are very helpful for both beginners and anyone trying to implement a premium or free theme.
Plugins
These are our favorite and most frequently used plugins.
All In One SEO – helps with SEO and also with page names. Use it to have the address bar and tabs on browsers display the site name that you want.
Form Builder – Use this to create contact or other forms and have the results emailed to any address that you choose.
Exec PHP – allows PHP code to be placed into widgets. A must for putting a form into a sidebar.
Event Calendar – Puts a very CMS friendly calendar into it’s own page and the sidebar.
WP Table Reloaded – You can import a CSV file into a table or create one separately and once the code is inserted into the page or post it will show the whole thing and update automatically.
Wordpress Database Backup – Backup your database automatically. You can set up a separate free email address and just send a copy there daily.

General Resources
Wordpress.org - the home of WP for those installing it on their own servers
Wordpress.com - an easy to use free site for setting up your own blog
Bluehost – We resell their hosting because we think they rock! They also play very nicely with Wordpress-a must for a WP host.
Premium Themes
These themes are worth every penny for functionality, design and support.
iThemes – We have set up several sites using their themes (including this one) and love them and their support!
WPRemix – This theme is not as user friendly but is extremely flexible. It was recently bought out – we are optimistically awaiting the upgrade from the new owners.
Thesis – Another robust and flexible theme.
